SUMMARY:From megaprojects to local green triangles
DESCRIPTION:Launch of the Citizens’ Initiative on the Recommendations for the Future of Tourism\n \n \n \n \n \n Denmark is facing a massive transformation of its landscape and extensive megaprojects within infrastructure\, climate adaptation and renewable energy. These megaprojects involve complex technical\, economic and political decision-making processes\, but also raise fundamental democratic questions: \nHow to ensure broad and legitimate citizen involvement? What role do future generations play in these decision-making processes? And how can democracy innovation contribute to strengthening public trust? \nThese questions will be the focal point of the conference “The voice of future generations – from megaprojects to local green triangles” to be held on April 30\, 2025 at the University of Copenhagen. \nThe conference brings together leading researchers\, policy makers and practitioners from both the public and private sectors to explore how citizen involvement and generational perspectives can be strengthened in society’s major development projects. \n \nProfessional perspectives on citizen involvement in megaprojects \nThe conference will present current research results and practical experiences with new methods to ensure broad citizen involvement in complex projects. Among other things\, the citizen assembly on Lynetteholm will be analyzed as a concrete example of democracy innovation in megaprojects\, where both method\, effect and follow-up research will be highlighted. In addition\, the local green tripartite agreements will be discussed as a model for how special new generations can be ensured a voice in the transition of our society. \n \nInternational expertise and youth perspectives \nKey speakers include Claudia Chwalisz\, founder of DemocracyNext and former head of the OECD Citizen Participation Innovation Program\, who will present international experiences of democracy innovation and generational perspectives in decision-making processes. \nIn addition\, representatives from the Youth Climate Council and other youth organizations will contribute perspectives on how young people can play a more active role in major societal changes. \n \nInterdisciplinary debate on the future of decision making \nThe conference will conclude with a panel debate where key decision-makers from research\, politics and business will discuss the balance between technocratic expertise and democratic involvement in society’s major development projects. \n  \nThe conference is organized in collaboration between the University of Copenhagen\, By & Havn and We Do Democracy and is open to researchers\, practitioners\, youth\, decision makers and other interested stakeholders. \n  \nRegistration and further information:\nParticipation in the conference is free\, but registration is required.
