SUMMARY:Nordic Deliberation Learning Call: The road to institutionalizing citizen gatherings in municipalities
DESCRIPTION:Launch of the Citizens’ Initiative on the Recommendations for the Future of Tourism\n \n \n \n \n \n Nordic cities and regions are increasingly using citizens’ assemblies for local policy development and decision-making. 89 citizens’ assemblies in municipalities\, regions and states today provide a rich foundation for more citizen deliberation. However\, it is still in the future that citizens’ assemblies are institutionalized as a permanent participation format. \nHow do we institutionalize citizen gatherings in Nordic cities? What are the barriers to implementing permanent citizen gatherings? And how can we use components of citizen gatherings\, such as drawing lots\, deliberation\, and everyday expert knowledge\, as permanent tools in the municipal toolbox? \nJoin us as we hear from the Nordic cities that are leading the way on institutionalization. We’ll share how far we’ve come in the Nordic region and together we’ll take the next steps towards the participatory democracy of tomorrow. \nThe Learning Call is open to everyone. It is particularly relevant for those who work in the public sector or with democracy and participation and are looking for a practice-oriented conversation about how citizen gatherings are used in administrations and what potential there is in the method. \nWhen? 10 June\, 08:30 – 09:45 (CEST)\, 09:30 – 10:45 (EEST) Sign up here and join us for a morning of shared Nordic learning and democratic renewal. \nFeel free to share with colleagues from across the region. \nNordic Deliberation Learning Calls are organized by the partners in the Nordic Deliberation Network: SoCentral\, We Do Democracy\, Digidem Lab and Sitra. Nordic Deliberation Network has received funding from the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Demos program for the project Nordic Deliberation Network – Enhancing Democratic Resilience. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Time\nJune 10\, 08.30-09.45 (CEST)\, 09.30-10.45 (EEST) \nLocation\nOnline \nClick here to register \n
