Vejle citizen panel on climate action

How can communities and civil society in Vejle work together with the municipality to boost climate action? A mixed panel of politicians, civil society groups and representative citizens of Vejle will answer this question.

Background

The Communities and Local Democracy Committee has adopted a Climate Action Plan for 2024-2026, which sets out an ambitious plan for cross-cutting collaboration in partnerships, local communities of action, education and communication activities. The purpose of this course is to highlight the role citizens can and will play and to develop concrete initiatives that reduce emissions quickly. Politicians and civil servants can initiate a lot – but shared leadership is needed to achieve the big transformations.

Task

The mixed panel is tasked with answering – What does the good life look like in Vejle Municipality with a much lower climate footprint, and what initiatives can we start tomorrow to get there? The big task for the panel is to develop concrete initiatives that can help the Community and Local Democracy Committee make their citizen-oriented efforts engaging, relevant and effective.

Solution

This is the first time We Do Democracy is conducting a deliberative panel mixing politicians, civil society and citizens.
To accomplish the task, we build on strong experiences from e.g.
Brussels on so-called Mix Panels.
It was a strong wish from the Committee for Local Communities and Local Democracy to mix actors – and we believe it can help anchor both the understanding, initiatives and future joint work more strongly with citizens, civil society and city councils.
As well as providing useful experiences on mixed panels on Danish soil

Results

The citizen panel will meet in October and November 2024, this page will be updated after completion with the outcome of the panel’s work.
