Citizens’ Panel on the Future of Europe

European democracy needs a new fire! It's time to start experimenting with new democratic methods for policy development at the EU level.

Facts

In connection with the Conference on the Future of Europe, The European Policy Center, in collaboration with local partners from 7 member states, has launched Moving Europe Together. The initiative is conceived as a series of parallel citizen consultations, where 30 citizens from each of the 7 countries will provide their recommendations for future policy development.

As leading experts in large-scale facilitation and deliberative democracy, We Do Democracy advised the European Policy Center and helped them design the overall format of the project. The ambition is for the course to facilitate knowledge sharing and development of the deliberative method across the participating countries. In addition, We Do Democracy has been selected as the Danish partner for the initiative. In the next six months, we will run and facilitate a series of consultations called “The Citizens’ Panel on the Future of Europe”, inviting citizens from all over Denmark to discuss how Europe can best meet common challenges and opportunities in the 21st century.

What role should Denmark play in European cooperation? How do we embark on a constantly evolving Europe?

The project is a unique opportunity to contribute a Danish voice to a pan-European debate. A debate that will form the foundation for policy development at EU level in the coming years and will have a major impact on the future of Europeans. To ensure that the initiative is rooted in a broad cross-section of society, we work with partners from across the country, representing business, politics, culture and civil society.
