On June 26th, the citizens’ assembly gathered at Copenhagen City Hall to present their recommendations to the Mayor of Technology and Environment in the City of Copenhagen, Line Barfod, and the City Council.
Over a series of meetings, the members of the Citizens’ Assembly have listened to experts, worked on solutions and values for Østerbro. Now they’ve put it all together in a final collection of recommendations and initiatives, about their overall vision, the members of the citizen assembly write:
Overall, it is the ambition of the citizens’ assembly to reduce private on-street parking in Østerbro. This will allow for more urban nature and a more vibrant city. Instead, parking should be placed in parking hubs or other shared solutions.
The total amount of cars must be reduced through measures such as better conditions for car sharing that reduce the need for private cars
The citizens’ assembly works with the following core task: How should we prioritize the space in Inner Østerbro between cars, urban nature and urban life? In the final work, all members of the citizens’ assembly were given the opportunity to vote and show their support for the final recommendations and initiatives. There is overwhelming support for all initiatives, and especially the desire for a greener Østerbro is widely supported by the members of the citizens’ assembly. Among other things, the Citizens’ Assembly recommends that Østerbro lives up to the 3-30-300 principle, which means that all citizens in Østerbro should be able to see at least 3 trees from their window, that tree canopy coverage should be at least 30%, and that you should be no more than 300 meters from a green area when you leave your front door.
