Internship at RENTEN / We Do Democracy (2026)

Do you want to help strengthen local democracy and create change at neighborhood plan?

Facts

At We Do Democracy, we are looking for an intern for spring 2026 who wants to help create a greener, more sustainable and democratic city as part of the project RENTEN – Transition Nordvest – together with neighbors and local actors on Rentemestervej in Copenhagen’s Northwest district.

RENTEN is a local neighborhood community working for a green and vibrant neighborhood around Rentemestervej, where people and planet thrive together. Anchored in the Democracy Garage, the purpose of RENTEN is to create a community where local actors and neighbors take ownership and take concrete action for their own neighborhood. We Do Democracy is a co-initiator of the project, which has been running for over a year now and has held a series of community dinners and planting and building days in the Northwest, all with an active volunteer group of local residents and stakeholders. Inspired by the global transition movement, the vision is to create a neighborhood where green transition, social justice and democratic participation are not opposites, but common goals – carried by diverse local communities and new forms of neighborliness.

As an intern you will have the opportunity to:

  • Help develop and run community-based projects at Rentemestervej
  • Support activities such as RENTEN’s plant service, Lommeparken, community dinners, street festivals and traffic calming in the local area
  • Communicate, coordinate and facilitate events and workshops in and around Democracy Garage
  • Become part of a vibrant and engaged network of volunteers in RENTEN

We are looking for you who:

  • Interested in democracy, sustainability, social justice and urban development
  • Have experience in grassroots movements or other forms of community volunteering
  • Practical skills and drive – you need to be ready to help build and plant
  • Curious, open-minded, resourceful and collaborative
  • Have a flair for either project management, graphic communication, communication, and/or community engagement

Internship period: February 2 – June 30, 2026
