Johan is the director and founding partner of We Do Democracy, where he is an expert advisor on deliberative democracy and participation.
Johan is co-founder of Democracy Garage, Denmark’s independent development platform for democratic innovation.

Johan is a leading expert consultant in designing and implementing Citizens’ Assemblies and citizens’ councils that comply with the OECD’s international principles. Johan has over 20 years of experience as a counsellor in inclusion and as a facilitator of change processes across various societal players.

Johan has deep knowledge in ensuring stratified representation in participatory processes and how to build bridges between system and citizens.
Johan is an expert in participatory processes with a focus on urban development, mobility, climate adaptation, renewable energy and green transition.
He is a driven writer, speaker and opinion leader.

Johan has in-depth knowledge of complex development projects and politically driven organisations. Johan is an expert advisor in participatory processes characterised by multiple stakeholders and solution approaches that rely on early participation and engagement of citizens in the implementation phase. Johan is a preferred advisor to public organisations, membership organisations and cooperatives.

Johan holds a Master’s degree in Aesthetics & Culture from Aarhus University, and has previously been managing partner at 2+1 Idébureau, communications manager at Danish Architecture Center and Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects.
Johan has been partner responsible for the implementation of citizen gatherings and citizen consultations in e.g.
Copenhagen Municipality, Gentofte Municipality, Rudersdal Municipality, Greve Municipality, Næstved Municipality, Novafos and By & Havn.

Johan is a board member of Foreningen Demokrati Garage and chairman of Pavillonen Charlottenlund and a member of Democracy Next’s expert group on democratization of urban development.
