Inner Østerbro, one of Copenhagen’s most iconic neighborhoods, is experiencing the same pressures as many other neighborhoods around the world. How can we have functionality in everyday life, but at the same time create a greener and more vibrant city? To do this, citizens need to be part of the conversation, as they are the ones who live in and use Inner Østerbro. Therefore, the City of Copenhagen decided to launch a citizens’ assembly on the issue.
We Do Democracy is tasked with designing and facilitating the citizens’ assembly, which will consist of 36 citizens from Østerbro. We Do Democracy has extensive experience working with citizen assemblies – both in and outside of Copenhagen. The citizen assembly in Inner Østerbro will consist of 5 gatherings from March to June. The members of the citizen assembly must come up with visions and recommendations to the following key question: “How should we prioritize the space in Inner Østerbro between cars, urban nature and urban life?”. The recommendations are submitted to the City Council, which has also initiated the citizen assembly itself.
There has been a lot of interest in participating in the citizen assembly – even if you haven’t been selected in the draw, there are several ways to participate. Among other things, you can join the open public meeting on d. 9/5 – details of the public meeting will be announced in April 2023. In addition, you can send an email to borgersamling2100@kk.dk with the knowledge and comments you would like to contribute to the citizen collection.
