The Climate Parliament has worked with Copenhageners’ consumption, which must be reduced by 50% if Copenhagen is to reach its climate target, and tried to answer how the municipality can support the changes we need to make to create a green transition.
The Copenhagen Climate Parliament consists of a group of citizens representing the city’s diversity in gender, age, income, neighborhoods and attitudes towards climate issues. For 4 months, they have been working to answer the question: “What does the good Copenhagen life look like with far fewer greenhouse gas emissions from the consumption of food, housing and transportation, and how can we best get there together?”
You can now read all their recommendations here: Copenhagen Climate Parliament24_recommendations.pdf
The citizen group started their work in November 2023 and has met 6 times. Last time in February 2024. At the meetings, they have gained expert knowledge about climate and consumption and talked to each other to come up with joint recommendations for politicians. In order to incorporate the many different opinions and perspectives into the recommendations, the group spent time listening to each other and talking to agree on how we can change our consumption in transportation, food, housing, as well as through systemic changes and cultural values.
The Copenhagen Climate Parliament will work for 3 years and play a role in the political process of developing a climate plan towards 2035 for the City of Copenhagen. Members have the opportunity to join for the entire period, and new members will be recruited in between the 3 years.
