The entire society must be activated for the green transition to be a success. Therefore, We Do Democracy, in collaboration with a number of climate policy organizations, proposes a major investment in a green democracy fund.
The Green Democracy Fund aims to ensure popular participation, involvement and ownership in the green transition. This must be done by supporting civil society in delivering 1) Concrete CO2 reductions, 2) a socially and geographically inclusive transformation; and 3) Public education and a broader knowledge regime in Denmark.
Basic idea: We propose that DKK 150 million be phased in over the next few years in a fixed annual appropriation in the Finance Act for the Green Democracy Fund.
The Green Democracy Fund is based on 3 key initiatives:
1.development of an ambitious program for municipal deliberative democracy to ensure broad and local anchoring of the green transition. In partnership with a number of municipalities, we will launch 10 local citizen gatherings and 10 deliberative initiatives to develop concrete transitions locally.
2.Establishment of a “Center for Green Co-ownership” to pioneer a citizen-driven transition in businesses and communities. This must be supported by democratic business development and green community ownership, such as cooperatively owned transition initiatives.
3.Development of a program that strengthens action knowledge in civil society. The program will ensure concrete CO2 reductions, support popular support for the transition and create a stronger knowledge base in Denmark.
