Democracy Drinks #1 2024

22. February 2024 kl. 16:30 - 18:00

Democracy Drinks #1 2024

Join us at Democracy Drinks, where the democracy sector comes together to share insights and get things moving. A sector across systemic and everyday democracy where experts, decision-makers, professionals and activists share the latest democracy research, studies, strategies, projects, legislation and ideas.

Speakers d. 22/2 2024:

Johan Galster, Director and Partner at We Do Democracy

Will talk about the work of the international task force that has published a comprehensive report that suggests that we need to rethink the ‘who’ and ‘how’ of urban planning in decision-making processes. As an approach, a systematic strengthening of urban participation formats and the use of deliberative methods, such as citizens’ assemblies and citizen consultations, are identified as a key democratic approach in future urban development.

Nadia Gullestrup Christensen, Chairperson of the Youth Climate Council

Come and talk about how a green constitution can give us green rights for the benefit of the climate and nature

Marc Malmbak Stounberg, lawyer (H) at Kontra Advokater

I’ll talk about Greenwashing (when companies market climate-damaging products as green), including how big the problem is, why it’s a problem and what can be done to stop it. I will draw on my work as a lawyer for the Danish Vegetarian Association and the Climate Movement in connection with the case against Danish Crown regarding climate-controlled pork.

Charlotte Harder, Head of Communications and Press at Journalistforbundet

Journalism and democratic discourse: Media and journalists are good at critical questioning, and investigative journalism is celebrated for exposing injustices, double standards and deception.

Conversely, journalism lacks tools to support and develop the broad democratic debate. To give citizens a voice that is more than just a case person or a voxpop.

Fortunately, journalism is changing in these years, but few media outlets are actively working to give users more voice and influence. Why is it a problem? And what can be done about it?

Lisbeth Trinskjær, Chairman of Højskolerne

Self-centered & sensitive are predicates many people use to describe young people right now – but there is simply something we have misunderstood!

Sara Læssøe Nielsen, Board member in New Europe

I would like to talk about the campaign for 16-year-old voting rights in the European Parliament elections run by the organizations Saga, New Europe, NAU, Youth Climate Council, Youth Bureau and European Youth – and the importance of formally including young people in democracy
